A presentation of Max's ongoing creative pursuits.

Photography

The vast majority of my photographic work serves primarily to be a vehicle to “sharpen” my skills of observation. I’m driven to document contrast, detail, composition and texture, As example the “double exposure” photographs are analog film transparencies or film negatives layered to build a an image the color density, contrast and texture captured to build the composition. The still life work is as the camera captures the subject, I strive to “see like a camera and think like film”, building the image in camera rarely ever utilizing digital imaging software to better the image, except to crop. Presently, I have been exploring the use of vintage lenses from the 1920s, 30s, and 40s adapted to my DSLR, again presented as “seen” by the camera and unedited other than cropping.

Objects

The act of making is always in the back of my mind, projects built and unbuilt revolve around  - how would, how could, what material, and will the object be true to my intention? The act of making for me is the employment of constraints and freedom; to attempt, to test, to solve, to express a shape, form or volume.
